With aunt Kellie, uncle Mike, and cousin Calvin visiting, it was a great Saturday morning for a trip to the Children’s Museum. Des was mostly overwhelmed during the last visit, but now with his new walking skills, it was an entirely new game.
Still a bit short for most of the pneumatic ball fun, but he was all too happy chase them all down anyway.
It was still time for an intermission mid-morning though.
Des is happy on the inside too, he’s got his pouch.
Des returning to sorting fruit with Calvin, he could have spent hours here.
We head off to breakfast on a cold January morning, but not before Des squeezes in one more book with grandma.
We trek off to the Lauritzen Gardens conservatory to warm up and walk off some energy. Des has been a walking machine over the past week.
Downhill walking is much faster
Still not sure what he’s thinking when he holds his hands out in front of him as he walks. Is he catching something? Soliciting low-fives?
Just skipping down the trail
Unlike everywhere else, all the plants are “look, but do not touch.” It’s a difficult concept to master; we’ll point instead.
Trying to glimpse all the fishies
One of the koi fish jumped up!
A montage of Des walking
Max really is a good sport and puts up with a lot.
Day #3 walking
This year we met up with many friends at Durham Museum’s Noon Year’s Eve.
Des and dad were interviewed on KETV (see at 0:53 below), though poking the boom mic was only interesting part
Snacks across Omaha
Des exploring one of the Union Pacific heritage trains
Ringing in the new year and exchanging gifts with Grace, Jason, and Clara (kept the same red balloon all day)
Pointing is the new “in” thing, with Eric and Gini
Des checking out the jukebox at the diner, which apparently was more interesting than pancakes
While only intermittently walking by himself, he’s getting quite good at walking with someone.
Des was getting pretty shaggy, so we went to see aunt Megan
Back home Des impressed dad with his new door-opening skills
Time for a quick drum solo before heading to ma & pa’s
Des and the cousins visit pa’s union hall (IBEW Local 22) to meet Santa Claus, just like mom did when she was a little girl.
Oh yeah, Des is walking now! Just a few steps occasionally, but he’s officially mobile.
We’re all pretty excited about it.
Des itemizes his wishlist for Santa
Des also got a froggy from Santa. He’s paid much attention to stuffed animals before, but he’s enthralled with this one
Playing with grandma after waking up from his afternoon nap
Des here is in no pain or discomfort. He has demonstrated repeatedly that he can get out whenever he wants. No, here he is royally ticked off he can’t crawl fully under the couch. The little man is strong-willed.
No Desmonds were hurt during the making of this video:
And much like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park, Des has figured out the door. Pretty tall for not even 14 months.
Playing the piano over at Rebecca & Jason’s before our Friendsgiving meal.
