Fourth of July 2018

The Field Club neighborhood has a reputation for a great Independence Day parade and it did not disappoint

Friends with the Omaha Jitterbugs performed as well

Special post-nap ice cream field trip

The sugar appears to be setting in…

Aunt Kellie identifying aloud each object Eleanor points to in 100 First Words, a household favorite (apparently)

Thinking something profound, or just recalling what was on the moss-covered log down by the pond (a little green frog)?

Dance party with grandma

Eleanor displaying her trademark persistence trying to get the snaps to “snap”

Celebrating with a few low-noise, mostly ground-dwellng fireworks, Des holds his first “sparkler” at a safe and cautious distance

Ok, a few parachutes went up

A bit more arm motion with his sophomore effort

His curiosity grew however as the evening wore on

With both children in bed, clearly up later than recent memory, the urban warfare across midtown came to an abrupt finale as the perfectly-timed rainstorm fell. A summer miracle.

Visiting the children’s fair during the Omaha Summer Arts Festival despite the sweltering morning heat

She may be a bit ways off from playing harmonica yet

Decorating a cookie and immediately eating it in the shade, summer goodness

Des got inked [get it?] with a Pirate Octopus

Eleanor swinging for the fences with the bubble wand while brother is making some spin art

What is it about summer arts festivals and the cool relief of snow cones?

Snow cones are a messy sport

A very generous mounted officer walked his horse over so Eleanor could pet “horsey!” Overjoyed was an understatement.

Now for some food to go along with all of ice and sugar water

Calvin and Des reading the Star Wars book

The boys clearly impressing Aunt Kellie with “the force” factoids

A (vegetarian) Ethiopian feast for grandma’s birthday

Practicing her kiss blowing

Group engineering

Des wanted a photo of his (hand-me-down) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pajamas to show Cal

Dog- boy’s best friend

A visitor sat in the front yard for a while as everyone was returning home from daycare/preschool/work. The kids did well giving the baby bird respectful space before it flittered off towards the garage

Mom’s barrette experiment was inconclusive

Cause who doesn’t love pizza?

Desmond varies between savoring and racing through his popsicles

Eleanor optimistically eating that popsicle wearing a partially-white dress

March 24th, 2018

Before running a few errands, dad asked Desmond what he wanted for breakfast: pancakes (Leo’s), doughnuts (Gerda’s) or salmon bagel. Here we are at the deli, sharing a lox and roe bagel.

Got to check out this year’s model of lawn tractors. Des usually opts for the green one first, great-grandpa Irv would be proud

Eleanor helping with her first batch of hummus

At a belated St. Patrick’s Day at grandpa’s house, Eleanor and Cassie get acquainted trying to decide who should be holding the shoe

Desmond breaks out some old school toys, a dusty recollection at best with dad and aunt Kellie

Presumably entertained by goofiness with Devin

Eleanor making the rounds, saying good-bye in her PJs

Not shown: blurry photo of Eleanor with grandpa :/

March 10th, 2018

Selfie game: strong

Pre-gaming at the new coffee shop ran by some of mom’s prior studio students

And it’s parade time, where magic like groups of dogs walk past their number one fan

The line was only temporarily held near the curb until descending into chaos further into the street. Des was ever so patient waiting for candy

The hunter, in action

Thumbs up for parades, no matter how cold

Ella has had her tongue out literally since birth, think the genetic responsibility has now been identified:

Five out of seven looking in the same direction, that’s a success

Waving at the firemen

Eleanor eventually needed a good stretch of the legs

With sufficient candy now in bag, Des just takes in the sights and sounds

All paraded out.

Dad’s 37th birthday

Two cousins, zero serious photos (as Des would say, “that’s okay!”)

Eleanor always on the run, this time with brother’s BB-8 ball

Des presenting a card in envelope, “Here Dad, this is a Darth Vader card!” In all fairness, with the two lit-up lightsabers and noises, it was awesome. Though this was followed shortly by, “(handing wrapped present to dad) Here’s the R2-D2 coffee (mumble) [french press] we got you!”

Summarizing both kids’ interests:

Ribbons are fairly entertaining

Singing, to various degrees

Grandma supervising the tower build

December 8th, 2017

Celebrating Aunt Kellie’s first birthday back in Omaha, with sushi! While it looks like a crazy pile of wasabi, Eleanor is actually just a fan of the edamame hummus.

The boat arrived with dry ice flowing stern to bow

Caution: Birthday Under Construction

Baby’s first time sitting in a shopping cart

First time at the checkout register, Eleanor is dubious of the man touching all of our food and hiding it in brown bags

Nap time is the best time

Generations 1, 3 and 4

Desmond felt it was best to gather all the balloons together in the middle of the room, as you do

Balloons = magic

Some truly remarkable women and mothers in this group

Inspecting the found ladybug

These cousins remain in motion

CAKE! It took a few tries and some coaching, but he blew the candle out

The look of pure bliss

Little heart, so full

Liam reading Des’ card

Snoopy and Woodstock play music and light up?!

Big brother sharing his card, Ella was equally impressed

Desmond quickly settling in story-listening position as Uncle Mike read one of his new books

Eleanor hopped in and contemplated the book’s plot and sub-themes

Eleanor showing off her most recent nighttime party trick: waking up and sitting, without making much more than a peep, then falling asleep again.
