Taste of Omaha

Despite all three of us having a cold/cough, and Des with an ear infection and pink eye (though on the mend), we just needed to get out of the house for a while. We decided to walk around Heartland of America Park for Taste of Omaha.

Few things Des enjoys more than crinkly packages to play with. Look closely and you can see his two bottom teeth coming in, along with one upper tooth.

And mere moments after Des army crawled through duck poop…

Though he’ll routinely try just about any food we offer him (except scrambled eggs, those were jettisoned with notable velocity), it’s always with a grimace of uncertainty. On the way back to the car, we stopped for a pint and snack and discovered he absolutely loves pita and hummus. No funny faces, wanted more. Go figure- he is our kid.

Exhausted after his first farmers market, Des napped while mom and dad enjoyed brunch.

Big Day Out

Like the last few Saturdays, the day started out with swimming lessons. Doesn’t look much different, but he’s definitely more into splashing now (a fun trick he’s extended to bath time)

Des stayed awake for most of the zoo!

Okay, a bit of a nap there towards the middle

Petting and feeding the stingrays was certainly the highlight of the day

Down by the petting zoo, we caught several zookeepers taking an 8-month-old cheetah for a walk (not for petting).

Sundays in the park

Only had to pin him down for 10 minutes first, but then Des really enjoyed our morning nap

During his six-month pictures, Des explored/touched/grabbed many new things- tree branches, grass, mulch. When we were done, he faceplanted into the grass and laid there for a several moments, as if deeply inhaling the earth for the first time. Or he was just too tired to sit up.

Six months

Hard to believe it’s been half a year already…

“Six months ago at this time, I started pushing. And he came into the world 2+ hours later already screaming and crying. The last six months have been the most terrifying and fulfilling of my life.” â€‘mom
