Dundee Day
This was the first year we made it to Dundee Day, an annual festival in our neighborhood. We walked up and had pancakes and watched a (small) parade with friends. While some of Des’ older friends enjoyed the bounce houses, we just chilled with the other parents.
Everywhere we turned, more friends and families. There was also a farmers market and craft fair. We ended the day by grabbing a pizza at Dante’s mobile pizza oven and walking over to the community garden picnic tables.
Des likes picking clovers, right-side up or upside down.
New and improved – now with 50% more teeth!
Chatting with Darian
Whew, that was exhausting.

Thursday afternoon was open house at Des’ daycare. It was nice to see him in his element and for snack time.
Apparently Des’ favorite spot is up in the kitchen. Lots to play with and sort.
Hey mom, what are you doing out there? Want a spoon?
It was time to go out in the big room and Des goes right for the stairs. Fearless.
Or maybe not- got all the way to the top stair and just stayed there for ten minutes 🙂
The tides might be slowing turning as Des appeared to enjoy the slide this time more than not.

Until Des is standing on his own, he’ll have to settle for bopping to Louis Armstrong on dad’s shoulders
With the music in the background, we ventured over to the swings

Des standing up and pushing his walker. Didn’t last long, but he’s starting to dig the upright lifestyle
Ride #2
After a later start to a hot day than we were hoping, got down to Manawa and geared up. An unexpected construction detour for the connector towards the Wabash Trace meant we ended up riding west out of the park and north into town along the levees. It was a good stretch of the legs at 12 miles over almost two hours with a few stops and a notable return headwind. Des slept a fair amount of the trip, though certainly just chilled at times and watched the world roll on by.
Des and mom relaxing under a tree after the ride, still all smiles with his water bottle
What’s a summer trip to Council Bluffs without a stop at Christy Creme? Dad was telling Des about how he’d walk down there while on a break from life-guarding at the Cabana Swim Club 16-some odd years ago. Mom and dad even reminisced about the first time they stopped in for an ice cream cone when dad’s first house was just over the hill to the west.
Oreo super shake, fries and ketchup on a hot day–it doesn’t get much better. They even have veggie burgers now.

So fortunate for the unseasonably mild weather this weekend, made riding in mid-July surprisingly enjoyable

After a half-hour in, Des is already asleep. An endorsement of the comfy ride? A better shot of the trailer-

Hard to tell with the lighting, but Des has his first case of helmet head
While Des may not be up for the ceviche yet, he will eat all of your avocados.
