With weather in the upper 50s, playing outside was nearly irresistible. Stinson Park provided the perfect snow-melt-mud-free destination

Ella shouted to the horizon as she ran, as if yelling “fore!” to warn the world she was coming

Ok, rest.

Not shown: Desmond sprinting off into the distance towards the tower. In open fields, the well-practiced and respected “red light!” system kinda breaks down :/

Ella giving it a good stretch of the legs

Eleanor definitely has the butt-scoot-shuffle-GO! move down better than her brother at this age, mastering the slide

“Take a picture of me!”

As dad was loading the camera back up to return home, this incredible “golden hour” light just jumped out. Ok, a few more.

Valentines Day 2018

For Valentine’s Day, mom and dad joined Desmond at preschool for a special pizza lunch. Let the shenanigans begin.

Coloring is now a spectator sport apparently

There’s metaphor in there somewhere…

Pizza Hut pizza, just as good as you remember it 😉

Dad’s a very traditional colorer, mom’s more of the free spirit (or was it “color by committee?”)

Desmond has been here for longer than he can remember. It’s a joy to watch him in his natural element-

Opening cards was certainly a crowd favorite

It is a day based on love and reading as well as giving and sharing. And the books that they read and give are loved and received. And through this giving and reading and loving and sharing, we too can share and love and give… and read.

A new tradition begins: the kids each received a book for Valentine’s Day. Ella was shriek-and-giggly happy to read her new Little Owl Colors book (thanks again aunt Kellie for couriering!)

Desmond intensely flips through each page of his new Star Wars storybook

While mom and dad traded in their tradition of watching gangster flicks on Valentine’s Day, another new tradition was born: let the kids pick the family meal. Since Eleanor is still holds a non-voting position with sibling votes, Desmond got to pick. His response of “SOUP!” however bordered on curiously reflexive…

Eleanor is in her newfound happy place: eating (arguably the best homemade ever) tomato soup. She’s demonstrating impressive usage of a spoon with challenging contents. She also instinctively dipped her grilled cheese sandwich into to tomato soup with the facial response suggesting, “Been doing that all my life.”

Eleanor’s 15-month checkup: weighing in at 24.5lbs (87th %) and 31″ (66th %)

While some folks might record sporting events to view later, this house rewatches the historical first flight of SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket. An astonishing scientific feat to marvel at, for all ages

Desmond reenacts the booster separation

Ella is all about most tomato-based dishes

“Gossie is a gosling, a small yellow gosling…” by mostly memory at this point

Big girl insisted on dragging a chair over to the coffee table to eat her post-nap snack.

Something just clicked this weekend. Eleanor has clearly chosen her preference for walking rather than sometimes-walking. If she stumbles, she gets right back up, where previously she’d more often then resort to crawling. She’s even quick-walking. Look out, world.

More cold weather, indoor activities. Des didn’t quite get the concept of running in place, but even that may take practice as a three-year-old

Desmond requesting a picture with this evening’s lego creation. It’s usually a rocket/space ship of some sort or a crane truck. Tonight it’s crane truck, but thanks to grandma’s Christmas gift, it now has a rotating boom!

Mom and dad must be doing something right, Des is eating salad for dinner

January 14th, 2018

Eleanor was feeling better the next day, despite a wicked cough. With mom and dad busy for a moment, Desmond was asked to keep sister safe on the couch. He held on to her as they continued their special Bugs Bunny Sunday morning matinee

After naps, it was another lego building session with Des’ big-boy Star Wars X-Wing fighter (thanks backordered-Christmas present elf in the UPS truck)

Pretty much sums up dinner with these two crazies

Nap time…

…shift change

More lego builds, with Luigi and Guido from Cars

Mom gets in on the lego action (don’t tell Des- we’re practicing numbers, spatial reasoning and fine motor skills)

TENS! for finishing the build

Suppose that’s one way to play with the tent

Trying a new setup for Saturday movie nights

Eleanor putting away a healthy portion of chili

Ah, they joys of foaming bath soap (“shaving cream”)

Of course he started by putting it on his leg and shaving, cause with dad’s beard, mom apparently has been the prominent shaving role model 🙂 Here we are also practicing face shaving, though following by arm and foot shaving for good measure.

Dear Santa- All Eleanor wants for Christmas are spices, containers and containers of them, so she can throw them around the kitchen over and over again. #spicespicebaby

Returning to winter weekend routine, making orange juice

Ella chugs her first glass of orange juice* (one part juice, four parts water)

Desmond helps dust all the things

Afternoon naps, these days will be over before we know it

Any excuse to do whatever her big brother is doing

Desmond wanted a picture of the snowman masterpiece. It was only later that the irony of a yellow snowman dawned on dad.

Pictured: family of four, eating mussels for dinner.
