On the walk to school, Des, Ella and mom saw… a crane truck carrying a beam, a cicada shell and a pink flower. And picked up acorns- a great way to start a Monday.
A summer rainstorm breaking out in the evening means only one thing- “rain races.” While a sudden burst of inspiration led to dad branding a new event, Des and Ella were just excited to dash about in their raincoats.
Little dinosaur, take two.
Desmond getting some real air with the puddle jumps
Warm and cozy inside, it’s time for some light lego catalog perusal
It also happened to be National Root Beer Float Day. Mom graciously supplied an ad-hoc special treat, a first for both Desmond and Eleanor
It was a hit.
Look closely, but Des is clutching (dad’s) Braveheart in one arm while sleeping
Wake up and smell the waffle batter (as you do)
Ella got some good banana smashing in too
Mid-morning lego party
Eleanor getting into the tower-making game
Similar to her seemingly intrinsic desire to press play-doh to her check, there are hypothesis abound to to demystify this particular lego placement… no one will ever truly know.
Tower pride.
Despite it being both a ’68 and a convertible, Des obliged dad’s request to pose with the Mustang
Apparently everyone is ready for nap time
Post-nap hang with her “Maxie”
Putting Eleanor’s impulsive picking to good use
Visiting from the faraway land of Huntington Station, Long Island, NJ- Desmond curates and demonstrates duplos for Wyatt
Somehow indifferent to the charm of aunt Katie and uncle Stephen, all three kids are in full lego mode
Ella showing off her rodeo skills for the special guests
Eleanor’s first upgrade from highchair to kid table
Such a sweet night with friends
Des shows off his motorcycle jumping an equally impressive block tower
Attending the Benson Days parade to start off the daddy weekend adventure
“Send that picture to mommy!” -Des
Taking a break from soliciting candy to watch the drum line
Des and Ella outside the Waiting Room, where mom and dad attended the Drive-By Truckers show just the night before
Watching the opening minutes of Up while dad openly sobs on the couch (“That’s the movie you wanted to do while I’m not there?” -mom)
Cheeseboard picnic for movie night with dad.
Surprisingly no regrets for being Ella’s first free-range (no high chair) dinner in the house
Max: the absolute best family dog
Ella getting her puzzle on
Combining her love of hats with helping make something herself, it’s a force to reckon with. This hat was on her head for the better part of two days before retiring as a center piece on the kitchen table.
Seriously, the hat was her jam
Dad leading the fireworks test of what was sold as a “sparkler.” This was not a sparkler.
Mixing up some waffles with mom
Eleanor instinctively planking on ever-patient Max
Dad thought was cute for a few moments before he realized he’d made a huge mistake
Almost as if he could sense parental mistake in precedence, Desmond arrived freaky fast to participate in the shenanigans
Mom thinks this is a dog, Eleanor thinks it’s a cat. “Maww!”
Nice in clean in their pajamas, ready for bedtime stories
Dog- boy’s best friend
A visitor sat in the front yard for a while as everyone was returning home from daycare/preschool/work. The kids did well giving the baby bird respectful space before it flittered off towards the garage
Mom’s barrette experiment was inconclusive
Cause who doesn’t love pizza?
Desmond varies between savoring and racing through his popsicles
Eleanor optimistically eating that popsicle wearing a partially-white dress
