Fourth of July 2018

The Field Club neighborhood has a reputation for a great Independence Day parade and it did not disappoint

Friends with the Omaha Jitterbugs performed as well

Special post-nap ice cream field trip

The sugar appears to be setting in…

Aunt Kellie identifying aloud each object Eleanor points to in 100 First Words, a household favorite (apparently)

Thinking something profound, or just recalling what was on the moss-covered log down by the pond (a little green frog)?

Dance party with grandma

Eleanor displaying her trademark persistence trying to get the snaps to “snap”

Celebrating with a few low-noise, mostly ground-dwellng fireworks, Des holds his first “sparkler” at a safe and cautious distance

Ok, a few parachutes went up

A bit more arm motion with his sophomore effort

His curiosity grew however as the evening wore on

With both children in bed, clearly up later than recent memory, the urban warfare across midtown came to an abrupt finale as the perfectly-timed rainstorm fell. A summer miracle.

Despite the holiday, it was a good morning to go check out the new Adventure Trails children’s area at the zoo. The budgies got a new home-

Ever dubious of rope bridges

…and rafts, apparently.

At this end of the exhibit, there’s a raft that guest can help pull across the water by pulling along a large rope.

Don’t think his surroundings here really dawned on him?

“Honey, we shrunk the kid”

Eleanor happy to be inside cooling off

Desmond running with the penguins

Certainly the most animated trip to the aquarium for her

“Wait, why can’t I touch these?”

He kept insisting this was Dory and Nemo’s dad

Stingrays smiling at Eleanor

The two newest giraffes born at the zoo

Butterfly (flap flap flap)

Cave break.

It’s almost as if she doesn’t realize there’s monkeys behind her.

Flirting with, and escaping, the splash pad water spouts

Sister getting in on the mist action

Fireworks crew

Desmond’s first sparkler, think he’s a fan

Friends over for a Fourth of July cookout

Maybe not bouncing, but certainly standing and bopping in the room

July 1st, 2017

Morning visit to the Children’s Museum to wear out Des before he would up late for the fireworks. Mom seen here displaying her best disco moves.

Intrinsic tetris skills, having never been shown what to do with the blocks

One of the coolest installations was the Sketch Town piece, where Des scanned his coloring of a crane truck (of course).

His drawing then came to life on screen as a 3D truck driving around!

Pretending his an “ausnaut,” looks like he’s wearing a LEGO helmet

Up close with the dinosaurs

He’s driven a fair number of jeeps in his day

Probably dad’s last ride until Ella needs a train buddy

Dad demonstrating how a creeper works, it may not have been designed for adults.

Having never actually used on in the wild, the museum’s has certainly provided him sufficient training

Got milk? (editorial note: sorry.)

First opt-in on the smock, which consequently did almost no good

Our girl laughing

Another “generation” on the whimsical hammer

A first, “I like oysters!”

Home Run Derby at the TD Ameritrade Ballpark

Eleanor’s “I’m excited to be at a baseball game in this heat” face

Desmond excited to show everyone his newly-discovered affinity for stadium peanuts

Des’ first Dippin’ Dots

The cousins getting ready for fireworks

If you think she looks excited just by seeing dad’s camera screen, you should have seen her fascination when the fireworks began

All ready.

A boy up wayyyyy past his bedtime
