Zoo 7
Des, grandma, and dad took a early Sunday trip to the zoo. Great weather, no crowds, and lots of penguins.
The aquarium tunnel is never not enchanting.
Des tried to get as close to the fishies as possible
Des could have just camped out in the aquarium for the rest of the day
Des trying to touch the jellyfish. Later in life we’ll explain why that’s not generally a good idea
Usually the sea turtles are in motion, never got to see one just chilling
Des playing with the interactive projection floor
That’s what I love about these tropical fish, man. I get older, they stay the same color.
Des was both fascinated and weary of the parrot. Its chirp was quite piercing, Des would flinch, but instantly resume staring intently.
We thought Des would really enjoy the budgie experience. Get a popsicle stick with suet for $1, and all the budgies just jump right on. While Des first tried grabbing the birds, he eventually was just ticked off he couldn’t have the stick and eat it.
It’s a good habit to both start and end the trip with penguins.

Dad and Des went for their first actual run with the Burley. Although dad was exhausted afterward, Des actually gets the nap.
Des meets Sydney on a visit to grandma’s house. It was pretty cute actually, as Syd would chirp, Des would repeat back in this high-pitched squawk. Could either grandma or dad successfully get this on video? Nope.

What’s more fun than cramming bath toys into a cup? Nothing. The answer is “nothing.”

AppleJack Festival
This weekend we took our annual trip down to Nebraska City for the AppleJack Festival. It’s a tradition we’ve all come to enjoy- a day picking apples, picnicking in the park gazebo, and walking about the sizable classic car show.
Upon receiving his first apple, Des mimicked Viv and just held it to his mouth. Curiosity soon got the best of him and he tried biting in. One taste of the juice and he was hooked.
Mom has eaten an apple or two every day for the better part of her adult life. She can quick draw an apple in just about any situation. Formal attire included.
Second generation apple fanatic.
Goofing around with pa and Viv. Note that when he was thirsty, he wouldn’t give up his apple to drink. “I’ve got two hands, don’t I? I don’t see the problem here.”
Des wearing our combined excitement and relief for deciding to pick apples first this year and beat the crowds a bit.
After the epic picnic spread ma prepared, the cousins scurried off to the playground.
(No pics of Des at car show. He napped and the Mustangs consisted of three ’67s and two Shelby clones. Yawn indeed.)

While mom is at yoga, the boys go for a walk. Only one of us falls asleep.

Lemon out!
Oysters and (first) crayons, that’s just how Team Llama rolls on Friday nights.
No one recalls the first instance, but at some point, Des picked a lemon off a restaurant table and ate it (well, chewed on it for an extended duration). Not one sign of distress or bitterness. Since then, he has had a number of lemon wedges over the months. Tonight began like most lemon encounters- first lemon, chewed it until only the rind remained. Second lemon, conquered with nary a wince. The third lemon, well, finally…
It was the memory of a goldfish- chomp chomp, bitter face, three-count, repeat. Over and over…
